The Holocaust was one of the darkest times in human history, and many wonder how it could have happened. The Holocaust was the culmination of a decade-long government-sponsored campaign of anti-semitic propaganda. This evelved into legalized segregation, physical violence, and ultimately, to genocide. Using artifacts and victim/survivor perspectives, we will discuss the escalation of hate from biased attitudes to bias-motivated violence during the Holocaust.

Spreading Hate: Propaganda and the Holocaust

Many people chose to support the Nazi regime during the Holocaust, and propaganda played a significant role in their thinking. Propaganda is false or biased information used to mold the opinions and actions of an audience to promote a particular objective. During the Holocaust, that objective was the attempted annihilation of the Jews. You will learn about the dangerous consequences of propaganda and antisemitism through the Holocausts artifacts and survivor testimonies.

The Holocaust: History, Memory, and Michigan Voices
A Traveling Exhibit Presented by The Zekelman Holocaust Center
Located at Patch & Remington (115 E. Main St, Marcellus)

Visit the exhibit during open hours--private hours by appointment. The exhibit will be available an hour before & after presentations.

The Zekelman Holocaust Center is proud to launch a 1,000-square-foot traveling exhibit. This compelling, multi-panel educational experience is designed to bring Holocaust history and survivor testimony to communities across Michigan.

The exhibition guides visitors through the rise of pre-war Jewish life, antisemitism in Europe, the ascent of the Nazi regime, escalating persecution, ghettos, mass killings, the camp system, and liberation.

The voices of Holocaust survivors—4,000 of whom rebuilt their lives in Michigan—are at the core of the exhibit, emphasizing the human stories behind historical events.

Join Pastor and Professor, Donnie Brooks to explore timeless literature and themes that are still relevant today.

Somebody in Boots by Nelson Algren

Cass lives in the Rio Grande Valley in West Texas in a shack "like a casual box on the border; wooden and half-accidental" with his father, his brother--a World War I vet disabled by exposure to poison gas during the war--and sister, subsisting on oatmeal or rice and handouts from the "Relief Station". Cass starts drifting, riding the rails from El Paso, Texas to Chicago, with stops in Shreveport, Louisiana and New Orleans. His journey ends in Chicago during the 1933-34 World`s Fair.

You Can't Go Home Again by Thomas Wolfe

The novel tells the story of George Webber, a fledgling author, who writes a book that makes frequent references to his home town of Libya Hill which was actually Asheville, North Carolina. The book is a national success but residents of the town, being unhappy with what they view as Webber's distorted depiction of them, send the author menacing letters and death threats.

Chris' Quilts of Kindness

Join us for a colorful slideshow and a quilt show and tell as Chris Nofsinger describes the rewarding process of experimenting with color and fabrics!

Chris Nofsinger pieces together bits of fabric to create quilting masterpieces...and then gives them to those in need. When donated to refugees and community organizations, these quilts provide necessary warmth, but also offer a bit of beauty and joy to those facing difficult times.

For those in their golden years or approaching (focused on participants ages 50+). Join us each week for connection and conversation.

Golden Years: Wellness Weekend Workouts
Saturdays at 9AM: 

For those in their golden years or approaching (focused on ages 50+). Join in for 45 minutes of fun and fitness! The focus of this class is on building strength, improving balance, and enhancing mobility. All fitness levels are welcomed and encouraged to attend, and all exercise can and will be modified to meet the needs of all.
